What is sowing and reaping?


Sowing and reaping in the Bible has dual meanings;

Agriculturally the sowing and reaping

of seeds producing food.

More importantly the law of spiritual sowing and reaping. It is about Christian life that we reap what we sow.


God wants us to sow seeds of love and righteousness.


With sowing and reaping there are time factors and patience involved.

God is all about His timing.


If we sow righteousness, we will be honored.







2 Corinthians 9;6

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.


We must give cheerfully,

we must harvest.


We must have love, empathy and sympathy while serving others.


Galatians 6;8

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.


We must sow and we must reap as a Christian, we cannot sit around and assume we are fine to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven.


Proverbs 11;18

18 

The wicked earns deceptive wages,

But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.


We must give ourselves to others including our time, effort and finances. This does not mean sowing things for ourselves.



Matthew 13;18-19

The Sower Explained ] “Hear then the parable of the sower19 When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sown beside the road.


Psalm 126;5-6 

Those who sow in tears shall reap with joyful shouting. He who goes to and fro weeping, carrying his bag of seed, Shall indeed come again with a shout of joy, bringing his sheaves with him.


Galatians 6;7

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap.



Genesis 26;12

When Isaac planted in that land, he reaped in the same year a hundred times what he had sown, because the Lord blessed him!



1 Corinthians 15;42-44

42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown a perishable body, it is raised an imperishable body; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.



Job 31;8

Let me sow and another eat, And let my crops be uprooted.




Psalm 97;11

Light is sown like seed for the righteous And gladness for the upright in heart.




Psalm 107;37

And sow fields and plant vineyards, And gather a fruitful harvest.



Proverbs 11;18

The wicked earns deceptive wages, But he who sows righteousness gets a true reward.




Proverbs 22;8

He who sows iniquity will reap vanity, And the rod of his fury will perish.




Ecclesiastes 11;4

He who watches the wind will not sow and he who looks at the clouds will not reap.




Ecclesiastes 11;6

Sow your seed in the morning and do not be idle in the evening, for you do not know whether morning or evening sowing will succeed, or whether both of them alike will be good.




Isaiah 19;7

The bulrushes by the Nile, by the edge of the Nile And all the sown fields by the Nile Will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.




Isaiah 28;25

Does he not level its surface And sow dill and scatter cummin And plant wheat in rows, Barley in its place and rye within its area?




Isaiah 30;23

Then He will give you rain for the seed which you will sow in the ground, and bread from the yield of the ground, and it will be rich and plenteous; on that day your livestock will graze in a roomy pasture.




Isaiah 32;20

How blessed will you be, you who sow beside all waters, Who let out freely the ox and the donkey.




Isaiah 37;30

“Then this shall be the sign for you: you will eat this year what grows of itself, in the second year what springs from the same, and in the third year sow, reap, plant vineyards and eat their fruit.




Isaiah 40;24

Scarcely have they been planted, Scarcely have they been sown, Scarcely has their stock taken root in the earth, But He merely blows on them, and they wither, And the storm carries them away like stubble.




Isaiah 55;10

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, And do not return there without watering the earth And making it bear and sprout, And furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater.




Isaiah 61;11

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts, And as a garden causes the things sown in it to spring up, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise To spring up before all the nations.




Jeremiah 2;2

“Go and proclaim in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, ‘Thus says the Lord, “I remember concerning you the devotion of your youth, The love of your betrothals, Your following after Me in the wilderness, Through a land not sown.




Jeremiah 4;3

For thus says the Lord to the men of Judah and to Jerusalem, “Break up your fallow ground, And do not sow among thorns.




Jeremiah 12;13

“They have sown wheat and have reaped thorns, They have strained themselves to no profit. But be ashamed of your harvest Because of the fierce anger of the Lord.”




Jeremiah 31;27

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man and with the seed of beast.




Jeremiah 35;7

You shall not build a house, and you shall not sow seed and you shall not plant a vineyard or own one; but in tents you shall dwell all your days, that you may live many days in the land where you sojourn.’




Jeremiah 50;16

“Cut off the sower from Babylon And the one who wields the sickle at the time of harvest; From before the sword of the oppressor They will each turn back to his own people And they will each flee to his own land.



Ezekiel 36;9

For, behold, I am for you, and I will turn to you, and you will be cultivated and sown.




Hosea 2;23

“I will sow her for Myself in the land. I will also have compassion on her who had not obtained compassion, And I will say to those who were not My people, ‘You are My people!’ And they will say, ‘You are my God!’”




Hosea 8;7

For they sow the wind And they reap the whirlwind. The standing grain has no heads; It yields no grain. Should it yield, strangers would swallow it up.




Hosea 10;12

Sow with a view to righteousness, Reap in accordance with kindness; Break up your fallow ground, For it is time to seek the Lord Until He comes to rain righteousness on you.




Amos 9;13

“Behold, days are coming,” declares the Lord, “When the plowman will overtake the reaper And the treader of grapes him who sows seed; When the mountains will drip sweet wine And all the hills will be dissolved.




Micah 6;15

“You will sow but you will not reap. You will tread the olive but will not anoint yourself with oil; And the grapes, but you will not drink wine.





Haggai 1;6

You have sown much, but harvest little; you eat, but there is not enough to be satisfied; you drink, but there is not enough to become drunk; you put on clothing, but no one is warm enough; and he who earns, earns wages to put into a purse with holes.


Matthew 6;26

Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they?




Matthew 13;3

And He spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, the sower went out to sow.



Matthew 13;4

and as he sowed, some seeds fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate them up.




Matthew 13;18-19

And the one on whom seed was sown among the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of the world and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful.




Matthew 13;23

And the one on whom seed was sown on the good soil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; who indeed bears fruit and brings forth, some a hundredfold, some sixty, and some thirty.”




Matthew 13;24

[ Tares among Wheat ] Jesus presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a man who sowed good seed in his field.




Matthew 13;25

But while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went away.




Matthew 13:27

The slaves of the landowner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’




Matthew 13;31

[ The Mustard Seed ] He presented another parable to them, saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and sowed in his field.




Matthew 13;37

And He said, “The one who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.




Matthew 13;39

and the enemy who sowed them is the devil, and the harvest is the end of the age; and the reapers are angels.




Matthew 25;24

“And the one also who had received the one talent came up and said, ‘Master, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you did not sow and gathering where you scattered no seed.




Matthew 25;26

“But his master answered and said to him, ‘You wicked, lazy slave, you knew that I reap where I did not sow and gather where I scattered no seed.




Mark 41

[ Parable of the Sower and Soils ] He began to teach again by the sea. And such a very large crowd gathered to Him that He got into a boat in the sea and sat down; and the whole crowd was by the sea on the land.




Mark 4;3-4

“Listen to this! Behold, the sower went out to sowas he was sowing, some seed fell beside the road, and the birds came and ate it up.



Mark 4;14-15

The sower sows the word.

15 These are the ones who are beside the road where the word is sown; and when they hear, immediately Satan comes and takes away the word which has been sown in them.




Mark 4;16

In a similar way these are the ones on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, who, when they hear the word, immediately receive it with joy.




Mark 4;18

And others are the ones on whom seed was sown among the thorns; these are the ones who have heard the word




Mark 4;20

"And those are the ones on whom seed was sown on the good soil; and they hear the word and accept it and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”




Mark 4;31

It is like a mustard seed, which, when sown upon the soil, though it is smaller than all the seeds that are upon the soil.
